Mountain House beef stew gumbo...

So I was feeling lazy tonite. Hard day at work, you have no idea, yada yada. lol

From scratch...During drink number one, I fried up the leaned ground beef. During drink number two, I added 1 can of maple flavoured brown beans and a can of diced tomatoes. I also stoked up a package of Mountain House freeze dried beef stew and let it sit in it's sealed container to re-moisturize. Then added it to the wok with all the other ingredients. Also seasoned it with salt and 3 kinds of pepper. (canned fine ground black, fresh coarse ground black, and packaged lemon pepper) Now sitting with drink number 3 and the early taste test* is favourable. It is delicious. :)

*taste tests may be affected by alcohol consumption. :sarcasm:

Hmmmm. Maple flavored beans mixed with beef stew, plus lean ground beef and tomatoes. Sounds like it might be pretty sweet, maybe too much so for my taste (I prefer savory flavors over sweet). Otherwise it doesn't sound too bad.

What are you drinking? I figure if I decide to try it, it might be a good idea to drink whatever you're having, just in case the flavor really is affected by the alcohol consumption.

The sweet flavour is nicely offset by the 3 kinds of pepper. It's mildly sweet, but with a mellow aftertaste pepper kick to it. I got lucky. I did this by taste and preferences only. Never tried this mix before tonite.

As for booze, I was drinking 20 year old rye whiskey. But I stopped after the third one. Now I feel full, happy, and slightly numb. lol Plus there are leftovers for tomorrow too. And if the supermodels start phoning later, then I'll know I'm just dreaming. heh

I bought a bottle of Sazerac Rye Whiskey recently, but I can't hardly drink it. It tastes like mold. A bottle of Jim Beam Rye that I have is quite good.

I'd like to try some other rye whiskey. What are some good brands?

I didn't have any here last night but the cadillac has to be Crown Royal.
I'd reco CR if you haven't tried it.
